Why is is needed?

Project Management is essential for complex application development projects.

It is a task that plans, organises, motivates and controls recources to meet the Projects objectives and deadlines.

As a Project is a temporary service, resources need to be bought together at a defined time for a set period, perform a series of tasks unique to that project and once the Project has completed dispand the team.

Individuals are selected for a Project based on the skills required outlined in the resource plan and scheduled in by the Project Manager to perform the tasks requested.

As individuals are moulded into a team they must be expertly managed to deliver on time & within budget.

Project Management occurs at every stage, driving the project from the Initial stages, through the Planning Stages and then at the Implementation stage as the Project becomes visible to outsiders monotoring progress.

Once this stage is completed it then oversees the delivery of the Project to the client.

What does Project Management involve at this stage?

  • Ensure Project tasks are completed on time and on budget.
  • Ensure the Client is happy with progress and report to them the details as outlined in the Communication Plan.
  • Manage each milestone to ensure on time. Once a milestone is reached to report to the Client and discuss/show progress and garner feedback.
  • Ensure any new changes are managed so that if the change is essential the resources/schedule is amended and agreed to by the Client, particularly if the delivery / end date slips as a result. They also need to follow the Change Management protocols as documentation needs to be amended along with the schedule.
  • Ensure all the Project team are aware of their responsibilities and role in the Project.
  • Manage any staffing issues arising from unexpected non attendance to ensure Project stays on track.
  • Keep a record of progress using the whole suite of Project Management tools such as Gantt charts.
