A responsive web site design is one that resizes to different size browser windows. Smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCS all have different screen size resolutions and this type of design adjusts accordingly. It would also allow you to resize your window and for the web page design to reflect the new size. There is a minimum and maximum default size but a user would be highly unlikely to go beyond these limits.

They are a more convenient and cheaper way to fully mobilise your site without needing to create an expensive mobile app.

It is also advisable not to completely ignore older browser users but still cater for different versions as customers / clients / browsers use multiple devices and expect them to work seamlessly.

IPAD3 has a higher resolution than the previous versions of IPAD so if using background images they will need to be prepared to a higher resolution in order for them to display as you want them to. Once done the effect is brilliant so it is highly recommended to make that extra bit of effort to ensure all devices display your site to a high quality.

Considerations

  • Is it essential for your business to cater for all devices?
  • How will this effect the site performance?
  • Will most smart phones be powerful enough to run your site application or will you need a Mobile App?
  • Will clients have a need to browse your site whilst on the move?
  • Does a responsive design add value to your business - cost v need?
  • If uers can browse your site 24x7 using all devices would your business cope with the potential increased demand?
  • What are your contact response times? Would they satisfy a potential client who is mobile and looking for a quick response?
  • Are you aware that multiple mobile apps - android, windows or iphone - will be needed?
